French cement supplier Lafarge has acquired independent Kent firm Port Land Cement for an undisclosed sum.

The move follows Lafarge’s purchase of a Castle Cement import terminal in Essex in June. The acquisitions are part of the French giant’s strategy to increase import capacity for cement from Europe.

Port Land was set up by managing director Robert Lee just under three years ago. It imports around 10,000 tonnes of cement a month through its dock at Ridham, near Sittingbourne.
