Francis Salway, chief executive of Land Securities, has said he wants to forge closer links with specialist contractors.

Salway, who was interviewed as part of a supplement published with this week’s Building, said stronger relationships with specialists were part his long-term strategy.

He said: “To improve links in the supply chain, effort has to be extended beyond the main contractors. Strong working relationships are crucial to getting a project delivered on time and on price.”

Land Securities is one of the industry’s largest clients, with £2bn invested in 15 projects.

Salway said that to deliver large schemes, Land Securities needed to secure supply in areas such as cladding, M&E and structural steel and concrete. Steve McGuckin, director of projects, will contact suppliers in the coming months to formalise deals.
