Scheme involves work at Hertfordshire city’s listed town hall
John McAslan & Partners has been appointed to work on a new museum and art gallery at St Albans town hall.
The town hall is listed at grade II* and St Albans City and District council wants to turn it into a building showcasing the city’s 2,000-year heritage.
Urban Salon is also working on the scheme, which will cost £6.75m.
The council has teamed up with St Albans Museums and Galleries Trust and the University of Hertfordshire Galleries for the project. It said it will be contributing £2.25m to the work with the Heritage Lottery Fund earmarked for a further £2.8m once designs have been worked up.
The St Albans Museums and Galleries Trust said it is looking at raising a further £1.7m from the public, charitable trusts and local businesses.
