Amos Partnership has designed a fossil-shaped building that will transmit live broadcasts from next year

Radio Southend will be broadcasting from a fossil-shaped beach shack from 2008.

The regional radio station commissioned architects the Amos Partnership to design a signature building to sit at the entrance to Adventure Island Leisure Park.

The 5,500 ft2 building was inspired by the shape of a fossil and constructed with exposed timbers and recycled glass.

Structural engineer Walsh Associates had a particular engineering challenge to overcome as the station had to be constructed on top of the fairground’s principal toilet block while it was fully operational.

The people of Essex will be able to hear live broadcasts from beside the sea from 1 January 2008.
