PC Harrington takes on Multiplex over £45m concrete works contract

Multiplex is facing a legal battle with contractor PC Harrington over a £45m concrete works contract.

PC Harrington applied for an interim payment of £13.4m in April this year and Multiplex issued a certificate saying the net payment due was £58.1m, reduced to £55.2 after a 5% retention was deducted.

The amount withheld was £13m, including £1.6m for floor tolerances. Multiplex claimed it was entitled to money from PC Harrington for alleged failures to pour concrete floors to the tolerances required.

PC Harrington has gone to the High Court, where it is seeking a declaration that Multiplex is not entitled to make any net recovery from PC Harrington and PC Harrington has no obligation to make any payment.
