John Pawson Architects reveals plans to convert former Commonwealth Institute in Kensington into new Design Museum

John Pawson Architects has revealed plans for the redevelopment of London’s former Commonwealth Institute. The Kensington site will be converted into the new home of the Design Museum which will move from its current base in Shad Thames. The proposals maintain the distinctive parabolic roof of RMJM’s 1962 structure and provide a new central atrium, mezzanine, basement and improved access. The grade-II listed building has been empty since 2002.
