Figures for fourth quarter of 2010 still better than figures from 2009

Poor weather was partly responsible for negative growth rates in construction output for the fourth quarter of 2010, according to figures released by the Office for National Statistics.

The total volume of construction output in the fourth quarter of 2010 fell by 2.5 per cent compared to the third quarter.

There was also a fall of 2.0 per cent for all new work and repair/maintenance fell by 3.7 per cent.

Repair and maintenance was also down 3.3 per cent compared with the same quarter in 2009.

There was some good news for the construction industry however as total output in the fourth quarter of 2010 was up 8.0 per cent on figures recorded during the same quarter of 2009.

New work was also up 14.5 per cent compared with figures in the fourth quarter of 2009.
