Alex Neil appointed the first Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure

A Cabinet post for infrastructure and investment has been created by the Scottish government.

First Minister Alex Salmond has appointed Alex Neil to the position of Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure and Capital Investment.

Neil has an established record of working with the construction industry through his role in the Cross-Party Group for Construction in the Scottish Parliament.

The Civil Engineering Contractors Association welcomed the appointment. CECA Scotland chief executive Alan Watt said:

“We at CECA Scotland have worked closely with Alex Neil in the past; we congratulate him on his appointment, and look forward to working with him again in his new role.

“We will continue to campaign for greater borrowing powers for the Scottish government to help ensure the Secretary has the financial resources necessary to invest in the economic future of the country.”

Commenting on Neil’s appointment, Alex Salmond said:

“Alex Neil joins the Cabinet for the first time, reflecting a renewed focus on jobs and investment, so that we sustain Scotland’s recovery.”
