Quintain announces £355m scheme that will see Wembley Stadium lie at the heart of a huge gambling and leisure district.

Quintain Estates has formed a joint venture with Caesar Entertainment to develop a £335m leisure and gambling resort next to Wembley Stadium.

As well as a casino the scheme will feature the redevelopment of Wembley Arena and the construction of Britain’s biggest cinema multiplex.

The 650,000sq ft project will also include a 400-room hotel, conference facilities, shops, restaurants, and bars.

Caesars chief executive Wallace Barr said: “Wembley promises to become one of Europe’s top new leisure destinations.”

“With that in mind, Wembley is a natural location for our first European casino project... Wembley is a name known around the world and is synonymous with the best in entertainment.

Construction work is expected to start by the end of the year, and Quintain said the first public areas will be finished in 2006, ready for the reopening of the stadium.

The scheme is subject to planning approval and the overhaul of Britain’s gambling laws.
