Work started last week on this £23m science centre at Wolfsburg in Germany.
Designed by Zaha Hadid, the centre's 12,000 m2 raised exhibition concourse is supported by funnel-shaped reinforced concrete columns. The columns pierce the structure, creating internal spaces and voids. The centre is due for completion in spring 2003. Structural engineers are Adams Kara Taylor and Tokarz Freirichs Leipold of Hanover, services engineers are Buro Happold and local firm NEK and cost consultant is Hanscomb.
