HSE and police to investigate collapse of breeze-block wall thought to be associated with construction site

A three-year-old girl died at the weekend after a garden wall collapsed on her at Prestatyn, North Wales.

Meg Burgess was walking along the pavement with her mother in in Ffordd Penrhwylfa when the accident happened. It is thought that the 2m-high wall made out of breeze blocks had been built as a temporary measure to hold back tonnes of excavated soil at a house under construction.

She was taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital where she was pronounced dead on Saturday.

A joint investigation by police and the UK Health and Safety Executive is under way to determine why the wall collapsed.

Key areas of the investigation will be whether planning permission had been given for the construction of the wall and if Building Regulations had been met.
