Screggagh wind farm in Northern Ireland closed after incident on Friday

The Screggagh wind farm in Northern Ireland has been closed after one of its 100-metre high turbines collapsed on Friday night.

The owner of the wind farm, Screggagh Windfarm, told the BBC it had shut down the remaining seven wind turbines while an investigation is carried out into the cause of the collapse.

The incident scattered debris over a wide area. Winds were said to be light at the time.

Doreen Walker, director of Screggah Windfarm, told the BBC: “We are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the collapse of the turbine at Screggagh wind farm.

“The Screggagh wind farm has been completely shut down since the wind turbine collapsed on Friday evening.

“It will remain shut down until Nordex UK Ltd has completed a full investigation into the remaining seven wind turbines and confirms that they are safe to operate.”
