A joint piece of research with recruitment firm Hays seeks the views of engineers to gain a definitive picture of women in the profession

Building is calling on readers to take part in a piece of research into the attitudes of men and women working in engineering.

The survey, jointly produced by Building and recruitment consultant Hays, is available online and seeks to find out and compare the views and experiences of male and female engineers.

Fewer than one in 10 engineers are women, according to the Women’s Engineering Society. At a time when the industry is facing a skills shortage, and in particular requires an extra 150,000 engineers by 2020, the need to recruit more women into engineering is widely recognised.

The data, collated anonymously, will be used to analyse morale, perception, pay equality, career progression and work-life balance within the sector.

The survey is open until 6 January 2017 and readers can take part via this weblink: http://feedback.hays.com/f/1084189/1533/
