Bam Nuttal, Balfour Beatty and Costain among bidders for fit-out of 21km of twin bore tunnels

Bam Nuttal, Laing O’Rourke and Balfour Beatty are among the five bidders for Crossrail’s £400m tunnel fit-out job.

The bidders will compete to fit out 21km of twin tunnels with rail, power lines, 50 ventilation fans, 40km of walkways and 60 drainage pumps.

  • BAM Nuttal Ltd / Ferrovial Agroman SA / Kier Construction  joint venture
  • Laing O’Rourke Construction / Volker Rail joint venture
  • Rhomberg Bahntechnik GmbH / Alpine Bau GmbH / FCC Construction SA joint venture

Andy Mitchell, Crossrail programme director said: “We received significant interest from the rail and construction industry with a large number of responses received. Contract will be awarded in early 2013, providing the chosen contractor with sufficient time to undertake detailed design and planning before fit-out work commences in 2014.”

The winning contractor will be expected to start work at both ends of the tunnels simultaneously

Crossrail trains are expected to be running by 2018.
