Stoke sixthform college fittted with Bilco D-50T hatches that double as smoke vents

Three Bilco D-50T motorised roof hatches have been fitted to the recently opened Stoke sixth form college. The hatches were modified to enable remote operation by 24v electric motors. Two of the hatches double up as smoke vents as part of the smoke clearance strategy for the building.

These smoke vents open to an angle of 140º to ensure fumes and smoke can rapidly disperse and reduce the risk of this blowing back into the school building. When fully open the hatches provide an unobstructed emergency escape route from the emergency stairs. The school was also fitted with two of Bilco’s EFW-50REM smoke ventilators.
