Technal has added a structural glazed facade system to its MX curtain walling suite. The MX SSG system uses structural silicone bonding to meet specifiers’ requirements for less visible aluminium. The units can accommodate 6, 28 or 34mm thick glazing or 50mm thick composite insulated panels.

Decorative PVCu panels

Veka has launched VekaStyle, a range of decorative PVCu panels for domestic and commercial interiors. It says they are resistant to abrasion and non-porous surfaces make them work for high-moisture food preparation, or medical areas. The range comes in matt and gloss options. It includes decorative trims for jointing, edging and coving.

High-pressure laminates

Formica has expanded its Solid Surfacing range of high-pressure decorative laminates for interior use. The manufacturer claims the material has a class 0 fire rating. The range is available in two different thicknesses, 12mm for horizontal applications and 6mm for wall cladding and decorative inlays, and is suitable for both residential and commercial applications.

Stone rainscreen cladding

Fischer Fixings has worked with Stancliffe Stone, Watson Stonecraft and LSC to develop a natural stone rainscreen cladding system. It says the PanAsh system is a complete lightweight solution. It comprises a stone outer-leaf, a rail system and stone fixings. Panel sizes range from 450 × 300mm to 750 × 500mm. Stone thicknesses are 35 or 40mm.

Kawneer has supplied its dry-jointed curtain walling, AA603 tilt slide doors, 190 narrow-style doors and AA601 casement windows to the £12m Oldham Library & Lifelong Learning Centre. Architect Pringle Richards Sharratt specified the products because they use the same materials as the first phase of Oldham’s cultural quarter.

Structural frameless glass

Pilkington has introduced a structural frameless glass system called Planar Activ.

It combines self-cleaning glass with silicone-free seals to enable the use of large expanses of glass where access might be a problem. Pilkington says it can be used with its range of glasses to give solar and acoustic control, thermal insulation and security solutions.

Powder paints for metalwork

Akzo Nobel has launched a range of architectural powder paints for architectural metalwork. Collection Futura 2006-2009 comprises 48 options with a choice of metallic, semi-gloss, matt and gloss finishes. The company says it is suitable for leisure, residential and industrial uses.

Matt coating

Sikkens has launched Rubbol BL Magura, an opaque, matt coating for interior trim and exterior surfaces. The company says it provides a hard-wearing, non-yellowing finish for timber, metal and hard plastics.

Vivalda has brought out a range of laminate rainscreen cladding panels. It says the Lamina Massief double-sided panels are weatherproof, anti-corrosive and colourfast. There are 70 colours and finishes. It has a wide range of sheet size and thickness.

Alcoa Architectural Products has supplied its Reynobond aluminium cladding products to Qatar’s new Academy for Sports Excellence in the capital, Doha. About 55,000m2 of panels in blue metallic and 30,000m2 of panels in anodic silver were specified. The company says the products offer excellent weather resistance.

  • Selectaglaze, a manufacturer and installer of secondary glazing systems, has launched its new website, The site provides technical details and test results for the company’s products, which include units designed to protect against bomb blasts, physical attacks and fire.
  • The Steel Construction Institute and the Insulated Render & Cladding Association have published a guide called Insulated Render Systems Used with Light Steel Framing. It lists the design and detailing principles that should be followed in order to achieve good quality and long life on such systems.
  • Ash & Lacy Building Systems has issued a brochure on its perforated screening panels, designed to complement its Ashtech rainscreen cladding system. The guide offers technical and design information on the products, which are
    made of aluminium composite material and solid aluminium. They are particularly suitable for projects requiring the incorporation of sections of ventilated screening within the rainscreen cladding.
  • Tile distributor Architectural Ceramics has launched, a website to help specifiers find the ideal tile from 150 collections. The site lists 20,000 product variations, including a wide range of colours, sizes, finishes, shapes and designs.
  • Glaverbel has launched a brochure about its fire-resistant glass Pyrobel. The manufacturer says it features information about its new horizontal glazing products, which are said to offer excellent fire protection.
