SAS International has supplied its active chilled beam Integrated Services Modules (ISM) as part of the One Pancras Square development in King’s Cross, London.

The ISMs incorporate lighting, cooling, ventilation, sprinklers and other services in a single performance module. The company says the integrated modules also offer significant aesthetic appeal as they help to create an airy sense of space conducive to a creative working environment.

The modules were prefabricated at the SAS factory in Bridgend, Wales.

Offices for railway project

AV Danzer has announced it is providing the on-site welfare and office facilities for Manchester’s Ordsall Chord railway project. The first-floor accommodation will provide office space, meeting rooms, a server room, print room and reception area. On the ground floor, facilities will include a canteen, meeting rooms, locker room, kitchen and toilets and washrooms. The units will be on site for the duration of the project, which is likely to take two to three years. Danzer’s modular buildings are pre-assembled, and will be placed on site when construction is due to begin.

Roan Building Solutions has been appointed to deliver a £1.6m sixth form facility. Tonbridge Grammar School in Deakin Leas, Tonbridge is working in partnership with Roan and structural engineer Lakehouse Construction to deliver a two-storey, modular building in just 14 weeks. As part of its tender, Roan developed and submitted a 3D animation of the building to enable the school to visualise how it will look when finished.

Portable cabins

Paragon has recently undertaken a full modular prefabrication refurbishment and installation. An old eight-bay portable cabin building was removed, redesigned, relocated and refurbished. The client required a larger cabin to replace the original one, to house site supplies as well as computers, file cabinets and telephones. The company said its cabins can be quickly moved and relocated as they are assembled off site, thereby saving valuable time and energy.

Yorkon, the off-site building arm of the Portakabin Group, has supplied 28 steel-framed modules for the construction of the International Institute for Nanocomposites Manufacturing at the University of Warwick. Designed by architect Cullinan Studio, the £2.3m building was constructed in just 14 weeks. The R&D facility will be used to develop manufacturing techniques for large-scale nanocomposite parts for high-tech industry including telecoms, electronics, pharmaceuticals and aerospace. The modules form dust-free, clean and easily maintained laboratories that feature complex servicing and renewable energy technologies to reduce carbon emissions.

Pre-assembled service

Steel frame manufacturer EOS has announced that its double studs, opening jambs, double stud lintels and sills will be dispatched from the factory preassembled. Customers also have the option to specify unassembled components: the company will pre-punch in the factory, ghost assemble and supply, together with all screws and drill bits, for assembly and installation on site. The company said the service will save significant on-site labour and time.
