This week’s roofing products include a single-ply membrane used to refurbish part of Olympia London’s grand hall, and concrete roof slates specified for a primary school in Jersey

Single-ply membrane

1600m2 of Protan SE1.2mm SE single-ply membrane was used to refurbish north elevation and apex roofs in Olympia London’s grand hall. The SE single-ply membrane was chosen as it had already been used in the refurbishment of the south elevation. Protan SE membrane has a tensile strength of ≥1050N and tear resistance ≥210N.

Movers and Makers

  • Wavin has added nine educational videos demonstrating the features of the OSMA rainwater gutter system to its YouTube channel. The videos offer step-by-step guidance for installation, repair and cleaning of different elements of the product range. The OSMA range has a choice of six rainwater gutter profiles, which can be used for domestic or commercial projects, and can be used in both domes and flat roofs.
  • Marley Alutec’s website features a number of new features. The fully optimised site now has a detailed installation advice section and a CPD zone. A new download centre where users can get product information, BIM and CAD files has also been added. The updated site hosts case studies for commercial and domestic projects and examples of eaves and aluminium rainwater systems usage.
  • Tremco Illbruck has launched a four-page brochure to introduce the CP380/CP930 ETAG OO5-approved rapid cure roofing membrane system. Based on PUMA technology, the liquid roof membrane is suitable for both new-build and refurbishment projects and can be applied directly to most roof surfaces without a primer. The rapid cure roofing system can also be applied at a wide range of temperatures so it can be used throughout the year.
  • Weber.rend MT multi-coat render system from Saint-Gobain Weber has achieved full British Board of Agrément certification, and now meets the NHBC requirements for new-build housing. Weber.rend MT is a render system incorporating glass-fibre meshcloth reinforcement and an adhesive coat and is available in a range of colours for a textured finish.

Concrete roof slates

Hardrow concrete roof slates from Forticrete were chosen for the construction of a new building accommodating over 200 students and nursery pupils at St Martin’s School in Jersey. The product was specified as the roof was required to blend in with the surrounding countryside. The company said its Hardrow concrete slates can be used instead of natural stone or slate as they possess similar architectural properties and aesthetics.

Extruded polystyrene sheets
Sundolitt XPS, an extruded polystyrene sheet, has been specified for the inverted ‘green roof’ solution at Meadow View Community Care Centre in Darley Dale. The company said the product was chosen to reflect the natural environment of the nearby Peak District National Park. Sundolitt XPS can be used for commercial flooring and domestic foundations, as well as roofing applications. The product is available in a range of thicknesses and sheet sizes, has a thermal conductivity of 0.033-0.037 W/mK (EN 13164) and achieves compression resistance from 200-700 kPa (EN826).

Rainwater and soil systems
The Cascade cast iron-style rainwater and soil systems range from Brett Martin has a new colour option. Anthracite grey has been added to the six other heritage colours and can be used in new build, refurbishment and restoration projects. The Cascade cast iron-style rainwater and soil systems come in three styles for the domestic gutter (106mm profiled ogee; 112mm half round; and, for larger or steeper roofs, a 115mm deep profile). For commercial projects there is a choice of 160mm roundstyle gutter with 105mm round and 4” x 3” rectangular downpipe.

Roof waterproofing
Sika Liquid Plastics’ built-up roof waterproofing system was chosen to refurbish a 2000m2 roof area at Scunthorpe Asda. The building suffered from water ingress and asbestos, and required a cold applied waterproofing option as the store needed to remain open during the 10-week project. The height of the roof was raised by increasing the insulation thickness. Sika Liquid Plastics’ Decothane Gamma 20 roof coating system was then applied over the roof area.

Whitesales has launched a range of rooflights and stands, consisting of Em-Dome ECO rooflights and Em-Curb ECO upstands. The Em-Dome ECO rooflight is a thermoformed polycarbonate sheet and features Whitesales’ screwbolt fixing system. The Em-Dome has U-values in accordance with ISO 6946 and meets ISO 13468-required levels of light transmission. The Em-Curb ECO upstand is available in three heights (150mm splayed, 150mm vertical, 300mm splayed, 300mm vertical and 350mm oversleeve), with U-values as low as 0.89W/m²K.

Sanded roof tiles

Redland is adding a new colour to its Fenland Pantile range. The new colour, antique, is the first colour in the range to have a sanded finish. The top surface and leading edge of the tile have been coated with a clear acrylic to allow it to achieve a heritage look. As well as the new tile, Redland is also manufacturing falf and third round fittings for ridges, monoridges and hips.
