Housebuilder Bellway will ramp up production in south-east England, where it said sales were now “marginally stronger” than other parts of the country

In a shift of focus away from flats, it said it was also seeking land “suitable for traditional two-storey housing”.

The company said the plan will help move it away from a strategy of “simple debt reduction”.

The order book for completion after Bellway’s year end on 31 July stands at £228m. In 2008 it stood at £283.
