LDA Design-led project reimagines 18 streets and spaces to reduce traffic and pollution ahead of public consultation
A reimagining of public spaces and streets in Holborn will go to public consultation later this year.
Camden Council appointed a team led by LDA Design to rethink 18 streets and spaces in the central London area to reduce traffic and pollution. LDA Design said that whilst the area had significant architectural richness it was perceived as a “place between”.
The Holborn Liveable Neighbourhood will include changes to Great Russell Street, in front of the British Museum, and a reimagining of New Oxford Street. Great Ormond Street, Great Queen Street and Theobalds Road will all be made more accessible, safer and greener.
The project is in partnership with Transport for London, and the design team also includes Studio Weave, Place Bureau, Tom Massey Studio, Polytechnic, Light Follows Behaviour and Authentic Futures.
Sophie Thompson, LDA Design director, said: “London needs more places where people, plants and animals thrive together. And so, we will be taking a pioneering all-life approach and changing liveable into loveable and celebrating the special qualities of this remarkable area.
A full public consultation on the proposals is expected late summer.
