Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has launched a CO2 heat pump for the commercial market called the Q-Ton

The 30kW air-to-water heat pump’s compressor operates in a system that can heat water to 90°C. The firm says that tests show that this is sustainable even when outdoor temperatures sink to -25°C.

MHI also claims that the system consumes 76% less energy than a conventional electric water heater and that the systems can be specified with up to 16 30kW Q-Ton heat pump units in a modular configuration, allowing a maximum of 480kW connected to 4,000 litre hot water storage tanks.
