Staff at cost consultant's central London premises return to work after a fire broke out yesterday

Cost consultant Davis Langdon is back at work today after a fire broke out in its central London offices at MidCity Place on High Holborn yesterday afternoon.

The fire started in a Japanese restaurant on the ground floor at about 2.50pm and quickly spread up to the roof of the building.

According to Rob Smith, senior partner at the firm, the fire appeared to be quite bad.

He said, “There were flames coming out of the roof, there was smoke billowing out and the cladding was falling off.”

The fire is believed to have spread up through the building on the south western corner via a duct. The eight and ninth floors at the top of the building were damaged by the fire and damage was also caused to the area above the restaurant on the second and third floors because the sprinkler system went off.

Smith said there was no damage to Davis Langdon’s offices on the fourth floor.

He said, “There’s a smoky smell but that’s all which is remarkable. It was quite exciting but thankfully we are all intact.”
