Rail contractor says its plant division was benefited from increased activity

Rail and plant firm Jarvis said trading has improved in the second half of the financial year.

Last November the company warned of an £8m hit in profits due to problems in its plant hire operation. Today said it continued to follow its strategy for recovery and the second half of the year showed improvement over first half performance.

Since its last trading update it has secured £40m of work with Network Rail and said plant benefited from the increased activity. Small plant turnover has also increased.

It predicted full year results would line with management expectations; preliminary results are expected on 28 May.
