The 228m high Bishopsgate Tower by Kohn Pederson Fox overcomes objections to win planning approval.

Plans for London's tallest building by Kohn Pederson Fox were granted planning approval last night by City of London.

The Bishopsgate Tower, also named the DIFA Tower after its client German capital investment company DIFA, will be 228m high with 88,000 sq m of office space.

Earlier this month, English Heritage withdrew its threat of taking the scheme to a public inquiry. EH said it remained concerned about the "significant negative impact" that the tower will have on historic buildings but said it welcomed the changes that DIFA had made.

Last Novemebr, EH raised the strongest possible objection to the scheme and threatened to take it to a public inquiry if it was awarded consent.

It criticised the "unprecedented scale and height" of the tower and its unacceptable visibility from St James's Park.

DIFA then submitted revised plans because of objections from the British Airports Authority and City Airport.
