Firm’s shake-up has also seen executive board shrunk
Sir Robert McAlpine says it has completed its recent restructure which has seen a number of back-office roles cut.
Last month, the contractor shrunk its executive board fron nine to six with the firm adding non-project roles were also at risk.
In a statement, the firm said a redundancy consultation had now been completed and added: “In line with the plan to bring our senior team closer to projects, a small number of non-project roles have been made redundant. We’ve successfully redeployed as many people as possible within the business, so the numbers affected are smaller than originally expected.
“It is never easy to lose good people and the decision was not taken lightly. We thank all those affected for their hard work and will be providing ongoing professional guidance to support their transition.”
McAlpine declined to say how many jobs had gone but it is understood to be around 40.
And the firm also said that Grant Findlay, previously executive managing director of buildings who left the executive board last month, was now “working for the business on a reduced number of days each week”.
Earlier this month, McAlpine won the third major office job in London being masterminded by Dutch developer Edge beating Bovis to the £150m deal at Shaftesbury Avenue. Edge’s first two schemes are being carried out by Mace.
McAlpine has also inked a £450m construction management deal to build a resort complex in Manchester called Therme Manchester.
