Firm now focussing on commercial, healthcare and industrial work

Sir Robert McAlpine has continued its rejig begun earlier this month with new managing directors for its three core sector businesses.

The firm said it was focussing on “three dominant” sectors – commercial, healthcare and industrial – and in an update said: “We’re pleased to announce that Mark Andrews, Stuart McArthur and Craig Allen are now managing directors of the commercial, healthcare and industrial sectors respectively.”

McAlpine said all will report to chief executive Neil Martin, with the firm adding that its special projects business will be part of the commercial unit although this will continue to be led by Mike Coleman.

McAlpine said it wants to focus on three sectors in the future

The firm said the moves come after “consolidat[ing] its focus on the commercial, healthcare and industrial sectors to bring senior managers closer to its projects and clients”.

At the start of the month, McAlpine said it had completed its move to focus on sectors rather than regions, an initiative begun by former chief executive Paul Hamer.

As part of this, the executive board has been shrunk from nine to six with its engineering and technical services director Andrew Hunter leaving.

Grant Findlay, previously executive managing director of buildings, and Steve Hudson, former executive managing director of infrastructure, have also left the board although McAlpine has said the pair “will remain with the business”.

As part of the changes, McAlpine said a number of back office roles were also at risk.

Building understands up to 50 jobs could go although McAlpine declined to say how many jobs could be lost as a result.
