Metronet has drafted in a programme management expert from Bechtel to review its problem tube station contracts.

It is understood that John Gaudette, formerly of engineers Bechtel and Jacobs, was appointed “vice president, stations” of the tube consortium about a month ago and is looking at how the remainder of the works can be delivered.

Metronet is responsible for maintaining and upgrading two-thirds of the London Underground network, but went into administration in July. The stations work has been the most problematic part of its contract.

A consultant involved with the consortium said: “The station delivery project needs serious reform and John is very much a big programme delivery guy.”
