The government is set to establish an Olympic Transport Authority to oversee the development of transport links and infrastructure for the games.

The body, part of the Olympic Delivery Agency, will include the Transport for London team that has been overseeing plans throughout the bid stage. Consultant EC Harris, which has been working with TfL on the proposals, looks likely to act as project manager on the transport schemes.

Reuel Abrams, project manager of the EC Harris Olympic bid, said: “We’ve had responsibility for co-ordinating transport infrastructure work so far. We hope TfL will continue to use our services.”

Abrams said EC Harris had meetings arranged with TfL, Network Rail and the Docklands Light Railway to put forward its case for managing the transport programme, which will involve £20bn of investment from TfL and Network Rail.

Terry Morgan, chief executive of Tube Lines, which is upgrading the Jubilee line to increase its passenger capacity 40%, said the firm was already making “great progress” to ensure passengers could travel swiftly between Olympic venues.
