Ramboll has won a role on a mammoth district cooling project in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, that will provide 500MW of cooling power from just 150MW of energy.

The firm will provide conceptual design and procurement assistance on the scheme, which will span over 3.6km from the city outskirts to the centre.

The district cooling system is part of a wider scheme which includes construction of two roads, a metro line, a grand mosque and over 200 plots to house more than 100,000 people.
