Free live online events next week sees education experts tackle sustainability, management, design and community issues for schools projects

Two free online seminars next week will offer advice to get successfu, well designed education projects off the ground. One will consider design challenges facing school designers while the second will examine the challenge of managing and building schools. They are part of the Education Now event, which will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday 9 and 10 December.

The first seminar on designing flexible schools will take place on Tuesday 9 December at 12 noon. Speakers will include Paul Monaghan, partner at AHMM and CABE schools design review panel; Lee Jeston-Jones, Director of Engineering, Ramboll Whitbybird; and Joanna van Heyningen, Partner,VHH Architects.

The second seminar, called Constructing schools: innovation, management and sustainability will include presentations from three experts and will look at practical issues facing construction teams in building secondary schools.

The seminar, on Wednesday 10 December at 12pm, will also offer case studies of completed projects as well as tips and advice for teams embarking in future schemes. The speakers include:

  • Clive Birch, a founding Director of project management firm Buro Four. He is a CABE enabler and a well known face in project management.
  • Simi Gandhi, community development manager at Catalyst Lend Lease, who has overseen the firm's work on £250 million Building Schools for the Future programme in East Lancashire.
  • Kevin Jones, managing director of Foremans Relocatable Building Systems the UK’s largest supplier and purchaser of pre-owned modular buildings, who will address issues such as design, construction and sustainability.
