RIBA selects six practices including Foriegn Office Architects and Rafael Viñoly for shortlist to be concept designer

The RIBA has named the shortlist for a concept designer for Birmingham New Street station, including Foreign Office Architects and Rafael Viñoly Architects.

CRAB Studio, IDOM UK, LAB architecture studio and UN Studio were also selected from 47 entries from the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden and the US.

The jury consisted of members from the participating organisations, Network Rail, Birmingham City Council, Advantage West Midlands and Centro, as well as Christophe Egret as RIBA architect adviser.

Clive Dutton, director of planning and development at Birmingham city council, said: “The station is the beating heart of the city. Its design must be breath-taking and lift the spirit. Any one of these architects is capable of creating something mind-blowing. What an unbelievably exciting prospect.”
