Hornby buys up Corgi in £7.5m small-scale industry coup

Model railway company Hornby have bought up die cast car manufacturer Corgi in a £7.5m takeover.

Train giant takes over crane and vehicle manufacturer

This adds another specialist area to Hornby’s portfolio to sit alongside its race car interests (Scalextric) and aeronautics (Airfix).

As well as its famous car range, which includes replicas of James Bond’s Aston Martin and the Batmobile, Corgi also makes construction site equipment like the mobile crane pictured.

Retailing at £5.99 some housebuilders may consider this as a way of downscaling their business given the current economic malaise and shrinking amount of work.
