Argent is looking to create a large retail destination at Kings Cross

Developer Argent is seeking to transform a number of Victorian buildings collectively known as Coal Drops Yard as part of its ongoing Kings Cross regeneration scheme.

Planning documents submitted to Camden council reveal an array of visualisations for the scheme drawn up by Olympic cauldron and Garden Bridge designer Thomas Hetherwick.

The firm will transform the area into a piazza and the three derelict “coal drops” once used to store coal for the capital into a new “retail destination”, including 100,000 sq ft of shops, galleries, restaurants and bars.

The Grade II listed buildings dating from the 1850s were badly damaged in a fire in the 1980s and have since lain derelict.
