Mixed-use scheme in Farringdon caught up in contractor’s collapse

Mace has completed work on the One Bartholomew office building in London’s Farringdon district after being drafted in to finish the job last year when original contractor Carillion went bust.

Designed by Sheppard Robson, three floors of the 12-storey scheme have been pre-let to a US advertising agency.

It comes with more than 300 bike spaces and changing rooms.

The building is part of developer Helical’s Barts Square mixed-use scheme near Smithfield Market.

It will include 10 apartment buildings and three office blocks. Others working on the One Batholomew scheme included QS Arcadis, project manager GVA, M&E consultant Sweco and structural engineer Waterman.

Carillion was also working on the residential element of Barts Square when it went under. This work was taken on by McLaren at the same time Mace took on the office block.
