Window systems from Technal have been used at the Jordanhill secondary school in Glasgow, where they are have to offer natural ventilation as well as meeting safety, acoustic and visual requirements

The GXi aluminium sliding window system was specified by Elder and Cannon Architects, based partly on research that showed good natural ventilation improves children’s attention spans. However, this can be difficult to achieve because window openings in schools have to be restricted to 100mm to meet safety requirements. The solution uses a sliding window system for all the classrooms set into a Technal MX curtain wall screen with a robust louvre fixed to the frame. The decorative grill acts as a safety barrier to protect the window openings while significantly increasing ventilation to the classrooms in warmer weather.
