Firm says ‘those who procure work need to assess contractors’ financial accounts, liquidity and organisational complexity’

Regional contractor Lindum saw pre-tax profit jump a third last year in newly released accounts filed at Companies House.

The firm, which is based near Lincoln, said profit for the year to November 2025 went up to £13m on revenue up 5% to £209m.

Lindum’s businesses include waste recycling, homes and plant hire but its contracting arm remains its biggest with £172m of income, flat on last time.

But it said it was not beholden to increasing revenue and added: “Turnover is not necessarily a good measure of a construction company’s performance in an industry which is known for the pursuit of work simply to maintain turnover (and cash flow), often, whether profitable or not.

“Consistent profitability, sensible investment, maintenance of a healthy balance sheet and cash levels are far better measures to assess, against which we perform well.”

It said that it had been asked to take on jobs left stranded by collapsed firms but warned clients: “It’s clear that this [company failure] remains a real risk in the industry, not only to clients but also to supply chains and we encourage all those who procure building work to look closely (in meaningful way) at their building companies financial accounts, liquidity and organisational complexity.”

Lindum, which works across Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and the East Midlands, said year-end cash up was up to £89 from £73m last time while the firm remained debt free.

Founded in 1956 by civil engineer John Chambers with just four staff, Lindum’s average number of employees during the year was 639 with the firm saying that 506 hold shares in the business.

Lindum says it distributes 10% of profits equally between all employees with profit for year coming in at £9.9m meaning £990,000 was shared between all 639.
