Homes built using timber rises 3% while proportion of social housing constructed using method hits 58%

Timber framed housing took almost 20% of the market for new housing in 2005 according to market research published by the UK Timber Frame Association.

It accounted for 58% of social housing and 16% for private housing in the UK. In Scotland, the figures were 72% and 73% respectively.

The total market for timber frame was estimated at £487m in 2005, an increase in 17% .The UKTFA said it expected the market for timber frame to rise to 25% of new housing by 2008.
