Sandtoft’s Cassius large-format clay tiles have helped a major housebuilder to maintain the aesthetics of a pretty Welsh borders village.

For the development of 25 houses in Llanymynech, Welsh slate would seem the obvious choice, owing to its widespread use on the village’s established properties.

However, the high cost of slate – both in terms of material and its installation – made it unfeasible. Cassius is a new generation of tile from Sandtoft with a slate colour fired into the tile, which the company says ensured complete and lasting colour. It claims the tile’s large format, interlocking design and open gauge means it fixes with the speed and efficiency of concrete, resulting in reduced installation costs.
