TOP 150: METHODOLOGY AND NOTES

Close to 250 firms were contacted for this year’s Building Top 150 Consultants survey. Companies were sent a survey form asking for details on numbers of chartered and non-chartered staff, numbers of offices and fee income. They were also asked questions on staff recruitment, wage patterns, margins, areas of work and expectations for future work and profitability.

All the data presented here is taken from companies’ replies. The main tables are ranked on fee income while the other tables are ranked on chartered staff numbers. The survey does not claim to list all the top consultants, as it relies upon firms completing and returning the annual survey form. For a variety of reasons, firms sometimes decide not to take part. Only those completing and returning the survey form are included in the results. Submissions are checked for accuracy and consistency with previous entries in the list.

Notes

1 Arcadis: Has provided its most recent fee turnover for this listing but the staffing levels are as of 2024.

2. Turner & Townsend: In January 2025 Turner & Townsend merged with CBRE Project Management into one integrated global business, operating under the Turner & Townsend brand; the combined business has moved its year end to 31 December in line with CBRE’s reporting year, meaning its recent audited accounts cover the eight-month period 1 May 2024 to 31 December 2024. Data in these tables uses a combination of the eight-month audited accounts to 31 December 2024 and four months of internal management accounts for the period from 1 January 2025 to 30 April 2025, giving a 12-month period that is comparable to previous Top 150 submissions.

3. Jones Lang LaSalle: Latest figures are unaudited and, given the variance with the 2024 figures, the tables here uses their previous fee turnover from last year’s listing.

4. Stantec/Hydrock: Hydrock was acquired by Stantec on 30 April 2024, so figures cover the financial year end December 2024 for Stantec, and financial year end March 2024 for Hydrock.

5. RLB: Figures are unaudited.

6. Gleeds: Figures are unaudited.

7. Kier Design: Kier formed a new design business called Kier Design, which is a larger part of the Kier Group so is not comparable to Kier Business Services which appeared in previous Top 150 listings.

8. CPC Project Services: CPC transitioned to an employee owned trust on 1 April 2024 so figures for the most recent year reflect CPC’s new 12-month reporting period of 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 and is an estimate.

9. Troup Bywaters + Anders: Figures are for a 15-month period.

10. AHR: Company financial year 2024/25 was a 15-month period; figures in the tables reflect 12 months (15 months pro rata).

11. Civic: Year-end figures are still under audit.

12. Buro Four Project Services: Figures are for 15 months as company is switching from January to March financial year end.

13. Straight Line Consulting: Current financial year is not yet complete so these figures are estimated.

14. Vextrix: Information submitted for this year is for Vextrix only whereas previous submissions included sister company Struktura.

15. Playle & Partners: Figures used are predicted as company is still awaiting finalised end-of-year accounts from its accountants.

16. Magnitude: Figures are projected as of 13 June 2025.
