Investigation first began in December 2024

The Competition and Markets Authority has widened the scope of its investigation into suspected bid rigging among roofing firms working to repair schools.

At the time of its announcement in December 2024, the competition watchdog said it was investigating several companies providing roofing and construction services, including contractors and technical advisors, over whether they had illegally colluded to secure contracts funded through the government’s Condition Improvement Fund.

The CMA’s probe into the allegations has been going on for more than a year

In a bulletin yesterday, the cartel-buster said it had “updated the scope of its investigation and expanded it to include additional parties” which as well as schools now included “other public and private sector bodies”.

It added: “The CMA has not reached a view as to whether there is sufficient evidence of an infringement of competition law for it to issue a statement of objections to any of the parties under investigation.”
