More than half of home set to be affordable
Plans to build 651 new homes as part of the next phase of a huge redevelopment scheme in east London have been granted approval by Barking and Dagenham Council.
Around 2,400 homes are already completed and occupied at Barking Riverside, which is being developed by a joint venture between 105,000-home housing association L&Q and the Mayor of London.

The latest component of the masterplan, which was given the green light at a planning committee meeting on Monday, was designed by GRID Architects and will include 355 affordable homes, with 70% designed for families.
Of the affordable homes, 50% will be for Affordable Rent and 50% will be London Living Rent.
The scheme also includes more than 2,000sq m of communal space, with buildings ranging between six and 15 storeys.
Parking is concentrated along the central spine road and small parking courts.
Jacqueline Esimaje-Heath, director for growth and sales at L&Q, said: “Barking Riverside is an exemplar, transformative new neighbourhood, and this phase reinforces our commitment to tackling the housing crisis and delivering genuinely affordable homes that give people the chance to live a better life.”
The project team also includes landscape architect PRP, civil and structural engineering consultant Walsh and MEP, energy, acoustics and air quality advisor XCO2.
Barking Riverside is located on 243 acres of brownfield land on the north bank of the Thames and is projected to deliver up to 20,000 new homes over the coming decades.
