Foster + Partners appointed to design world’s largest airport

Mexico airport

Architect Foster + Partners has been appointed to design a new international airport in Mexico City.

Norman Foster’s practice won the design competition, as part of a team including Fernando Romero Enterprise and Netherlands Airport Consultants, for the airport, which at 555,000m2 will be one of the world’s largest. The airport terminal is enclosed within a lightweight grid shell, with the walls and roofs embraced in a single flowing form.

The design is aimed at making the terminal the world’s most sustainable airport.
