1 The Cape Town Stadium, designed by GMP in association with two local firms, Louis Karol and Point Architects. Contractors Murray & Roberts and WBHO Construction completed the stadium in 33 months for £400m.

2 For the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, the project group consisted of 32 South African architectural firms with GMP as consultant architect. The construction of the 70,000 seat ground cost £300.

3 Finally, they worked as consultant architect on the five-tier, Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium which was built overlooking the North End Lake, at the heart of Port Elizabeth. This one cost £180m to build.

Even before it completed the central station redevelopment in Berlin in time for the 2006 World Cup, German architect von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (GMP) had opened an office in South Africa with a view to gaining work on the 2010 finals.

It found work on three projects, working in a different capacity in different consortiums.
